Exploring Your Choices... Choosing an Arts & Sciences Major

COUNSELING AND STUDENT DEVELOPMENT CENTER (CSDC)

The Testing Office administers personality and interest inventories, which are assigned by career counselors at the Counseling and Student Development Center. To schedule an appointment to see a career counselor, please call 956-7927.

CSDC also offers the following workshop to assist you with in deciding on an academic major and career path:

Introduction to Career Planning and Decision Making
Choosing an appropriate academic major and career path are important decisions for university students.  This workshop will introduce career planning concepts and theories and highlight resources on campus.

CAREER SERVICES

Make an appointment with a Career Services counselor by calling 956-8136 or stopping in at QLC 212.  They can help you identify your unique skills, interests and values, and explore potential career options.

ARTS & SCIENCES STUDENT ACADEMIC SERVICES

The exploring your choices website is designed to take you through a series of steps so that you can narrow down your choices. Once you have completed these steps, you can make an appointment to meet with an Arts & Sciences academic advisor to discuss the research you have completed on different majors.  At the very least, you and your advisor can review your academic progress to date, and review the major decision process and the resources available to you.

ON-LINE RESOURCES

Click here to view some on-line resources.  As you use these resources, keep in mind that the outcomes of these assessments may help you learn a little more about yourself (i.e, what are preferences), but they do not define who you are.  And while there are many different types of assessment tools available to help you as you begin your journey of exploring potential majors and careers, there is no one test that will give you "the answer."
