Post-Baccalaureate Second Major Option– Arts & Sciences
Guidelines For Students Pursuing the Post-Baccalaureate Second Major Option in the Colleges of Arts & Science
Post-baccalaureate candidates who wish to pursue a second major rather than a complete second baccalaureate degree should pursue their academic major as an unclassified post-baccalaureate candidate. Upon completion of the second major, the candidate may apply at the major department for a second major. (UH-Mānoa Catalog)
- Students interested in pursuing the post-baccalaureate second major option in the Colleges of Arts & Sciences must meet with the undergraduate advisor in the second major: a) to request permission to complete a post-baccalaureate second major and, b) to identify the major requirements they need to fulfill.
- The student must be reminded that they are completing a second major, not a second degree. The completion of a post-baccalaureate second major is not a BOR approved certificate or minor. The student will have a notation at the bottom of their transcript indicating that they have completed the equivalent of a second major at UH-Mānoa.
-
During the student’s last semester, the department should complete a "Certification of Completion of Second Major" Form indicating which courses are completed, and any remaining course(s).
- The "Certification of Completion of Second Major" Form will be submitted to the Colleges Arts and Sciences Student Academic Services (CASSAS) for final verification.
- CASSAS will get final approval by the College Dean after
verifying the completion of coursework for the major and that
the student is eligible for the certification of second major
option.
- CASSAS will submit the paperwork to the Records Office once grades have been posted for all the required courses to complete the major.
- The Records office will place the following notation on the student’s record: “Completed equivalent of a second major in…, date.” This notation will be placed
in the semester in which the student completed the course work in the major.
