Jump Sessions

For A&S students interested in long-term academic planning; mandatory for Interdisciplinary Studies majors and for A&S students requiring certification and/or verification of academic progress (ROTC plans, VA plans, etc.)

NOTE: If you are not intending to complete an Arts & Sciences major, please see an advisor in your intended college, as requirements among colleges vary.

The time in an individual appointment with an academic advisor is ideally spent addressing questions pertinent to your specific situation, and concerns regarding larger issues related to your overall educational and academic goals.

A JUMP Session allows  you to project a graduation date by developing a long-term academic plan.   This academic plan will be the basis of your development of an comprehensive educational plan that incorporates research and internship opportunities, allows for participation in meaningful study abroad or national student exchange programs, as well as incorporate co-curricular and leadership activities.  You can sign up in advance; both advisors and students have time to complete a thorough review of the academic record before meeting to discuss academic progress and to work on educational planning.

  • An understanding of graduation requirements
  • Identification of remaining requirements
  • Demonstration of knowledge of graduation requirements by completing an academic plan to project a graduation date
  • Ability to discuss with an academic advisor ways to supplement your undergraduate experience pass course requirements

  • JUMP sessions consist of three parts, all of which must be completed if you wish to develop an accurate academic plan:

    Part 1:
An instructional workshop where you are provided the opportunity to learn your degree requirements, then apply this knowledge in completing a personalized academic plan that meets your interests and career goals.  There are two options for completing Part 1.

Option 1: In-person group JUMP session (one hour)
NOTE: If you are on a core year earlier than Fall 2002, you MUST use this option.

    This session is currently unavailable.

    Option 2: Online JUMP (self-paced)
    NOTE:
You must be on the 2002-2003 core year or later to use the online JUMP option.

From the JUMP Online page, download and print the necessary worksheets. Guided by the tutorials, complete the "core check" and "credit check" and complete an academic plan. Bring your completed work to QLC 113 to sign up for a follow up appointment with an advisor.   ROTC and VA students should pick up the appropriate forms from the VA or ROTC offices.

    Part 2:
An individual  meeting with a faculty advisor in your department to review your major requirements and select coursework that matches your interests and career goals.

    Part 3:
An individual follow up meeting with an advisor to review your academic plan and discuss options for optimizing your educational experience.  Bring the following completed workshop assignments to the Arts & Sciences Service Counter to sign up for a follow up appointment with an academic advisor.

    • Completed A&S Program Requirement Sheet (includes your core check)
    • Progress Worksheet
    • Academic Plan
    • Your MyUH transcript marked with NI and non-A&S credits

These completed materials are your ticket to sign up for a follow-up appointment with an advisor. Please schedule your appointment for at least 4 days in advance; this gives our advisor time to review and prepare for your advising session.
