Tips for Freshmen

1.
Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Explore your options.
2.
Bring an umbrella, especially during winter months.
3.
Search for opportunities to enrich yourself - study abroad, join a club, go on exchange to another school.
4.
50-cent coffee vending machines are lifesavers!
5.
Bring a sweater when going to Hamilton Library.
6.
For dorming students: be prepared for fire alarms.
7.
Get a watch; time management is important!
8.
Do not procrastinate.
9.
Rent videos and DVDs (free with a student ID) from Sinclair Library.
10.
Don’t believe everything you hear, read, or learn but whatever you learn, learn with a passion because one day you may use it!


Tips for Transfer Students

1.
Bring all academic papers (transcripts, transfer catalog, transfer
evaluations) with you when coming to the FYAC.
2.
Get involved in activities, clubs, organizations, research, service learning

Ask continuing students for tips, strategies, and food suggestions.
4.
Transferring to a new school can be difficult. Do not hesitate to
ask for help - see an adviser.

Be prepared for the fact that some credits may not transfer over.

For Mainland transfers: Be sure to take advantage of the unique cultural, travel and language opportunities of UHM.
