University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa
First Year Advising Center

FYAC Mission Statement

The mission of the First Year Advising Center is to facilitate a smooth academic transition to the University for all first year (freshman and incoming transfer) students as well as prospective students.

The FYAC provides peer mentoring and academic advising on a walk-in basis and serves as a resource center, designed to assist students in exploring options and gaining a better understanding of academic planning.

The FYAC is housed in the Colleges of Arts & Sciences, and serves a number of different student populations. It mainly serves Arts & Sciences students in terms of graduation, general education and college / program requirements but also provides guidance for students who are preparing for entry into another school or college at the University to plan how to fulfill their pre-entry requirement.

The FYAC also does referrals to Non-Arts & Sciences schools and colleges and to other programs, agencies and departments on campus.

Finally, the FYAC offers workshops on topical issues and programs. As part of the University of Hawaii at Mānoa, the FYAC shares the first goal articulated in the Mānoa Strategic Plan of promoting student learning and success, both for the students serviced by the FYAC as well as for the peer mentors who work for the Center.
