General Education Requirements

General education requirements are those requirements that are required on a University level.

General education requirements can differ from institution to institution and state to state, so students must not assume that if they have completed their general education requirements at another institution that they have thereby completed their general education requirements at Mānoa. (System schools have articulation agreements with UH-Mānoa that are designed to make transfer from within the system smoother.)

At the University of Hawaii at Mānoa, general education requirements can also vary from degree to degree (bachelor of arts to bachelor of business administration, for example) in the sense that particular schools may determine that a particular option in a given category must be taken.

As a result, students need to stay informed and consult their college / school or major advisers on a regular basis.

The General Education Office provides information about basic general education requirements, listings of courses that meet particular designations, focus requirements and articulation. (www.hawaii.edu/gened)
